Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar on Friday clarified his stance over the speculation surrounding his recitation of the RSS anthem in the assembly on Thursday. Shivakumar said he is a “born Congressman.”
Shivakumar on Thursday recited the RSS anthem during a heated debate in the state assembly over the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that claimed the lives of 11 people. BJP lawmakers welcomed his move by thumping their desks.
This happened after BJP MLA R Ashok, pointing towards Deputy CM DK Shivakumar in the Karnataka Assembly, said that the state government should take responsibility for the RCB stampede. In response, Shivakumar said that he knew all about the BJP’s tricks, and then recited a few lines of the RSS anthem during his exchange of words with R Ashok in the Assembly.

When asked if there was a political message behind reciting the RSS anthem in the Karnataka Assembly, Shivakumar said, “I am a born Congressman… I have done research on all political parties. I know how the RSS is building institutions in Karnataka… They are acquiring schools in every district. They are trying to preach to children. As a leader, I should know who my opponents are and who my friends are. I just try to learn about the RSS and its history… Politically, we have a lot of differences. But the BJP should know I know them deeply…”
