Govt Doubles Renewal Fees For Vehicles Older Than 20 Years; Up To Rs 80,000 For Imported Models News24 –

With an aim to reduce the usage of vehicles older than 20 years, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made a big increase in their registration renewal fee.

According to the latest notification, the renewal fee for light motor vehicles (LMVs) older than 20 years has now been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. For motorcycles, this fee was earlier Rs 1,000, which has now been increased to Rs 2,000. For three-wheelers and quadricycle vehicles, this fee has been increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000.

This increase is even more on imported vehicles. For renewal of imported vehicles with two or three wheels, now Rs 20,000 will have to be paid, while for imported vehicles with four or more wheels, the fee will be Rs 80,000.

The draft of these amendments was released in February, which was finalized on August 21. This is not the first time the ministry has increased such fees. In October 2021 too, the ministry had increased the registration and renewal fees of motorcycles, three-wheelers and cars.

Recently, the Supreme Court ordered not to take any strict action against the owners of old diesel (10 years) and petrol (15 years) vehicles in Delhi-NCR. This decision came on the basis of the appeal of the Delhi government, in which they had asked to take a decision based on the use of the vehicle rather than its age.
