India is celebrating the second National Space Day with great enthusiasm and pride today, which commemorates the historic day when Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram Lander Successfully soft landed on the surface of moon on August 23, 2023. The achievement makes India the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first to reach its South Pole.

After landing, Pragyan Rover started scientific studies on the surface of the Moon and the place was named “Shiva Shakti Point”, which is a symbol of the country’s scientific thinking and cultural identity.

Honouring this extraordinary achievement, the Government of India declared 23 August as “National Space Day’, symbolizing the country’s advancing space capabilities. This year’s theme is “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: From Ancient Knowledge to Limitless Possibilities”, which reflects India’s journey from astronomical heritage to its modern space missions.

This day symbolises ISRO’s continued progress, its leading role in space science, and its global recognition in satellite technology and research. It is also a source of inspiration for India’s space journey towards the future.

The theme for National Space Day this year is “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan, From Ancient Knowledge to Infinite Possibilities”.

The theme connects India’s ancient astronomical heritage with modern space science. It pays tribute to the renowned astronomer Aryabhata and highlights advanced plans like India’s first human space mission ‘Gaganyaan’.

The theme aims to inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and showcase how space technology can contribute to sustainable development in areas such as agriculture, communication, disaster management, meteorology and navigation.
