Novak Djokovic Reacts After Win Against Learner Tien, Says ‘ When You Come To Late 30s Its About…’ News24 –

Novak Djokovic won in a dominating style at the US Open on Sunday night. The 38-year-old Serb defeated American teenage sensation Learner Tien in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6, 6-2, under the Arthur Ashe Stadium lights. Even though the world No. 2 needed a medical timeout to take care of what seemed to be a blister on his right foot, he bounced back quickly to complete the task in a little more than two hours.

Tien demonstrated staying power by coming from a match point down and then breaking Djokovic’s serve to lead 5-2. Any illusions of a prolonged comeback, however, were short-lived as Djokovic broke right back to take the victory in straight sets.

After the win, Djokovic reacted and mentioned about playing against Tien and how he wished he was of the same age like him.

“Great to be back in New York,” Djokovic said during a short on-court interview.

“Quite a strange match to be honest. The first set was 20 minutes, the second set was an hour and 20 minutes. It was a key to me to hold my nerve in the second set. All in all there are positives to take.

“I wish I had Learner Tien’s age when you come to the late 30s it’s about learning how to preserve the energy for what matters.

“I still have the flair, I still have the drive, and you guys give me the energy. Hopefully I can keep it going.”
