Funeral Video Sparks Questions Over Family’s Claims News24 –

The case casts doubt on claims made by Nikki Bhati’s family about her death. Nikki, who was allegedly burnt alive for dowry in Greater Noida last week, was cremated by some members of her in-laws’ family, and her father-in-law played an active role in the last rites.

Nikki died on Thursday night, August 21. Her sister Kanchan who is also married into the same family that lives in Sirsa village, Greater Noida alleged that Nikki was set on fire and killed by her husband Vipin and other in-laws. Kanchan says that when she saw her sister burning, she fainted and the in-laws fled from the spot.

Nikki’s father Bhikhari Singh Palya also alleged that all the in-laws had fled except her father-in-law. But a video has revealed that Nikki’s father-in-law and some other in-laws were present during the cremation, and the pyre was lit by her father-in-law.

Hours after the funeral, at 12:40 pm, Nikki’s family filed an FIR accusing her husband Vipin, Kanchan’s husband Rohit, mother-in-law and father-in-law of murder. Police took all four into custody. At the time of his arrest, Vipin tried to snatch a police officer’s pistol and was shot in retaliation, injuring him.

Last week, another video surfaced in which Vipin and a woman can be seen dragging Nikki by her hair. Vipin was not wearing a shirt at the time and had blood marks on his body.

Kanchan said, “Both of us sisters were constantly mentally and physically tortured in our in-laws’ house. They would often say that their demands were not met in the marriage. They were demanding an additional dowry of Rs 36 lakh from us. I was also beaten up badly between 1:30 and 4 am on Thursday morning. They said, ‘We got dowry from one sister, now what about the other?’
