Big Relief For Delhiites! PWD’s 8 Big Projects To Ease Jams; Major Revamp At ITO News24 –

To address one of Delhi’s biggest problem, traffic congestion, the Public Works Department (PWD) is undertaking eight major projects. For this, the department has invited consultants to prepare the feasibility report and detailed project report (DPR) of these projects. The department has fixed the cost of consultancy services for this at around Rs 14.6 crores. A thorough study of all technical, environmental and social aspects will be done, before beginning the construction work.

According to reports, the feasibility study will cover flyovers, underpasses, or elevated corridors across eight previously proposed major stretches of the city. It will be decided where to build a flyover or underpass.

Major Revamp At ITO! Check Other Plans

PWD officials stated that the possibility of building an underpass or flyover at ITO is being explored, as reported by Amar Ujala. Additionally, the officials are exploring to build a flyover at IGI Terminal-1 and an elevated road on the Inner Ring Road.

There are also preparations to develop the largest intersection at ITO. At present, it is one of the busiest junctions in the national capital. The proposed plan includes a 4km integrated corridor that will connect all major roads, streets and modes of transport in the area.

Another important stretch is a 7 km length of Deshbandhu Gupta Road opposite Paharganj up to Ajmeri Gate. With nearly seven traffic signals, the road faces huge congestion throughout the day. A feasibility study has been proposed for the construction of a flyover or underpass.

The Shadipur Depot stretch is also identified under this project. It includes four major intersections, with a right of way (ROW) of 40 metres at Mathura Road and 30.5m at Goswami Girdhari Marg.

Project Location Length Current Issue Proposed Solution Expected Benefit
Deshbandhu Gupta Road (Paharganj to Ajmeri Gate) 7 km Heavy traffic and jams due to 7 major signals Flyover/Underpass Major relief for Central Delhi and station area
Shadipur Depot Area 4 km Daily traffic jams at 4 major intersections Flyover Better access to Karol Bagh, Rajouri Garden, and Patel Nagar
Hind Vihar, Kirari (Rohtak Railway Line ROB) 1 km No direct road connectivity due to railway line Road Over Bridge (ROB) Direct connectivity to Nangloi and Rohini
ITO Intersection 4 km Busiest intersection, frequent congestion Flyover/Underpass Smooth flow near key govt. offices (e.g., Income Tax Bhawan, PWD HQ)
Nanaksar Gurudwara T-point to Delhi-UP border (Tronica City) 6 km Environmentally sensitive route, congestion Elevated Corridor Direct route from North-East Delhi to UP
Najafgarh-Phirni Road to NH-48 and Old Delhi–Gurugram Road 20 km 15 traffic signals causing delays Corridor Development Relief for Najafgarh and Dwarka traffic
Shivaji Marg (Jakhira Crossing to Karampura Flyover) 2.2 km Poor connectivity between West Delhi localities Road improvement/Flyover Better connectivity for Moti Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Patel Nagar, Karampura
IGI Airport (near NSG HQ) 2 km Daily long jams on Airport Road Flyover/Underpass Smooth access for domestic and international passengers

Reason For Upgradation

The pressure of vehicles on ITO and IGI is constantly increasing, creating problems for commuters. Therefore, to provide relief to commuters, enhance the connectivity and ease travel experience, these projects have been proposed. Officials stated it would take about 9 to 12 months to prepare the DPR of these projects.
