Kolkata: A shocking case of gang-rape has come to light from Kolkata in West Bengal, where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by two of her acquaintances on her birthday. The incident occurred on Friday, September 5, in Regent Park area in the southern outskirts of the city and was reported on Sunday. The two accused, identified as Chandan Malik and Deep are missing after the crime. Reportedly, Deep is said to be government employee.
The survivor from Haridevpur alleged that the assault took place when Chandan took her to Deep’s house on the pretext of her birthday celebration.
What Did Police Say?
The woman’s birthday was on Friday. On that occasion, the accused, Chandan and Deep, took her to the latter’s flat. There, they had a meal. She said that when she wanted to return home, the accused stopped her. They allegedly locked the door and gang-raped her, as reported by the NDTV quoting police sources.
The victim was able to escape on Saturday at 10:30 am. She informed her family about the incident and following this, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered under relevant sections on Saturday. Police have started investigation into the case and search for absconding accused is underway.
In her complaint, the victim stated that she met Chandan several months ago, who introduced himself as the head of a Durga Puja committee in south Kolkata. She was then introduced to Deep through Chandan, and the three started to remain in touch with one another. Both of them had promised to get her involved in the puja committee. The two accused had promised to get her involved in the puja committee, she said in her complaint.
