Nepal Protest- Over 1,500 Prisoners Escape Amid Violent Protests By Gen-Z Over Social Media Ban News24 –


As the protest over the social media ban continues with unrest in Nepal, over 1500 prisoners reportedly escaped from various jails of the country. Reports suggest that 572 inmates escaped from Jaleshwar prison in Mahottari after protesters and prisoners together breached the prison wall.

Police officer Heramba Sharma said it happened around 7 p.m. when more than 500 protesters came to the prison. He said the prisoners only had kitchen tools, but the protesters had crowbars. Because of this, the police could not stop them.

Nepal Unrest

Former Nepal Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) senior leader Jhalanath Khanal’s wife, Rabi Laxmi Chitrakar, succumbed to burn injuries on Tuesday after their residence in Dallu was set ablaze by Gen Z protesters. According to party leader Naresh Shahi, she had sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Nepali Army Hospital in Chhauni, where she was admitted to the ICU. Despite efforts to save her, she tragically passed away during treatment.

Nepali Army, Top Security Chiefs Make Joint Appeal

Meanwhile, the Nepali Army and chiefs of other security agencies have issued a joint appeal, urging protesters to restrain and resolve the crisis through dialogue. They also called upon all concerned parties to find a peaceful solution to the problem through political dialogue.

Nepal President Ram Chandra Poudel Resigns

Nepal President Ram Chandra Poudel officially resigned on Tuesday amid ongoing violent Gen Z-led protests across the country. His resignation came just hours after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stepped down on Tuesday afternoon. The protests, which began on Monday, continued into Tuesday, with demonstrators storming and setting fire to the Parliament House, Oli’s private residence, and the homes of other Nepali Congress leaders.
