Indian football may see a historic moment this October, as all-time great Cristiano Ronaldo may visit India for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) 2025–26. His club Al Nassr is to play FC Goa on October 22 in what would potentially be one of the most high-profile games to have been ever played in India.
According to Times of India’s report, Al Nassr have added Ronaldo to their 12 foreigners involved for ACL2, with other stars from across the world such as Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Kingsley Coman. But Aymeric Laporte won’t be seen in the competition, having gone back to Spain with Athletic Club.
FC Goa is paired with the same group as Al Nassr, Al Zawraa (Iraq), and Istiklol (Tajikistan). Their group stage run begins against Al Zawraa on September 17 in Fatorda, then they play Istiklol on October 1. The most eagerly awaited encounter is still their October 22 home game vs Al Nassr.
Despite Ronaldo being included in the squad sheet, it is uncertain whether he will travel. Traditionally, he has played very few ACL2 games away from home.
In the meantime, Ronaldo recently committed to staying at Al Nassr until 2027, dispelling reports that he would join the MLS. The move confirms his continued commitment to Saudi football’s international aspirations.
FC Goa, who resumed their continental journey after their 2021 inaugural appearance in the AFC Champions League, qualified through winning the Kalinga Super Cup. They beat Al Seeb (Oman) 2-1 in a nail-biting game to qualify for the ACL2 group stage.
With Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the picture and Ronaldo potentially dropping by, this ACL2 season is turning out to be a game-changer for Indian football.
