Noida International Airport gears up for operations by late 2025, aims to handle 6 million passengers News24 –

Noida International Airport update: The much-awaited Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar is currently under construction and preparing for the launch of its first phase. Also known as Jewar airport, NIA aims to commence operations by November this year. Moreover, it is set to become a major aviation hub, with industry insiders expecting it to handle around six million passengers during its first year of commercial operations.

According to the Hindu Businessline, Noida airport is on track to commence both domestic flights and cargo services by the fourth quarter of 2025. NIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Christoph Schnellmann, recently confirmed that all aeronautical infrastructure is now complete. The Roofing of the passenger terminal has been finished, and finishing touches along with technical installations are in progress.

NIA enters ORAT

Reportedly, the airport has now entered an important stage known as the Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) programme. In this stage, trial runs, simulations and familiarisation sessions for airlines, ground handlers and other stakeholders are carried.  Baggage handling system, security screening, check-in counters and boarding gates are also being actively tested. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is currently installing and testing equipment for the air traffic control tower.

Recently, the airport had made progress on another important front by implementing intelligent lighting system. Panitek Smart Energy’s intelligent lighting system has been installed in the airport premises. This system provides on-demand lighting, which will be helpful in reducing the electricity consumption. This smart lighting system installed at the airport will be made more high-tech in the coming days.

Work at the Noida International Airport is progressing at a rapid pace. Construction is underway on the fire protection system, escalators, and passenger terminals. Earlier in March, the authority had updated about the construction of passenger boarding bridges at the airport.

NIA wrote on X, “Stepping closer to the skies! Passenger boarding bridges are now rising at #NIAirport. These vital structures will ensure a smooth journey from the passenger terminal building to the aircraft, offering a hassle-free boarding experience for travelers.”

After missing several deadlines, the airport is expected to become operational within the year. The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) is leaving no stone unturned in developing an airport with world-class facility, prioritising passengers’ safety and comfort, while catering to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. In the first phase, the airport will begin operations by starting one runway and one terminal, with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually.
