Good News! Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 set to reopen on October 26 with passenger-friendly upgrades – Check out what’s new News24 –


There is good news for flyers as the upgraded Terminal 2 at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is set to become operational from October 26. The T-2 will have several passenger facilities like the like the Self Baggage Drop (SBD), six new passenger boarding bridges featuring autonomous docking technology, modern ceilings, innovative skylight designs and others. The terminal, built by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) 40 years ago, was temporarily closed to carry out the upgrade work in April, when Terminal 1 became fully operational.

From this upgraded terminal, airlines like Air India and Indigo will operate 120 domestic flights daily from October 26. This will enhance operations and provide a superior travel experience to passengers every day.

DIAL, led by GMR AERO Asia’s largest private airport operator, undertook the comprehensive upgrade work to make T2 future ready to meet the growing passenger traffic. The upgraded T2 is designed to provide travellers with a seamless travel experience.

Speaking about the development, CEO, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, said, “Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade-it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With innovative technologies like the Self Baggage Drop and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travellers, optimizing efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation. As India’s busiest aviation hub accelerates toward its next phase, these world-class enhancements underline DIAL’s vision to deliver an unmatched passenger experience while supporting the country’s growing air travel aspirations.”

The upgraded Terminal 2 offers a host of passenger-friendly facilities, like the Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility. The SBD facility will enhance passenger convenience as it empowers them with complete control over their journey. This independent baggage check-in facility will reduce the wait time of passengers.

Another salient feature is the passenger boarding bridges (PBB), featuring autonomous docking technology that will allow quicker and smarter aircraft handling. These PBBs have been procure from South Korea. There is a facility of elevated ramps to assist wheelchair passengers and optimally adjusted cabins for seamless boarding

The upgraded Terminal 2 features significant mechanical and electrical improvements, including renovated HVAC systems that ensure optimal air quality and passenger comfort throughout the terminal. Advanced fire safety systems have been installed to enhance security and safeguard passengers.

Moreover, it also features a new, high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS) that provides real-time flight information with greater accuracy, enhancing passenger convenience. Specially designed signage has also been installed to ensure clear communication throughout the terminal, with particular focus on accessibility for Persons with Reduced Mobility.
