Dehradun cloudburst- Heavy rains since last night has led to severe flooding and large-scale destruction in various parts of Dehradun and nearby regions. In Sahastradhara, several shops and hotels were severely damaged after debris swept into the main market following a cloudburst on Monday late night. Rivers like Sahastradhara, Chandrabhaga in Rishikesh, and Song in Tapovan have swollen dangerously, flooding roads and low-lying settlements. Visuals show massive destruction, commuters stranded, Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple inundated, and areas flooded.
The Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh has been in spate since this morning, causing water to reach the highway. SDRF rescue teams have been deployed, with three people rescued from the Chandrabhaga River. Settlements in Tapovan were submerged as the water level of the Song River rose following heavy rain. Bridge near Fun Valley and Uttarakhand Dental College on the Dehradun–Haridwar National Highway have been damaged as well.
Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman stated that persistent rainfall has caused waterlogging in Dehradun and several other areas of Uttarakhand, with damage reported at multiple locations. Relief and rescue operations have been carried out throughout the night. He added the department has received reports of one or two people losing their lives in Mussoorie, which is currently being verified.
Sahastradhara, Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Harigiri reacted on the cloudburst incident and stated that it occurred at a few places last night. Following the disaster, water level is high and landslides have blocked areas with debris. He added that some resorts and hotels have been damaged.

Meanwhile, a local said, “Due to the strong flow of water, a lot of logs came floating, due to which the temple has faced a lot of damage. In this situation, everyone should stay away from the river.”

Another resident described the incident and stated that main damage occurred around 10 pm when two cloud bursts occurred. “Since yesterday morning, it has been raining; however, the main damage happened at around 10 pm when two cloud bursts occurred… All the roads have been damaged, and the village has suffered a lot of damage. There is information that 4-5 people are buried under the debris,” he added.
