ABVP Wins 3 Seats, Aryan Maan becomes New President, NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla set to become Vice-President News24 –


In the DUSU elections, ABVP emerged victorious, winning three key seats, including the president’s post. Aryan Maan of ABVP defeated NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary to become the new president of Delhi University Students’ Union, while NSUI managed to secure just one seat. After the 19th round of counting, NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla obtained 27,182 votes, while ABVP’s Govind Tanwar is trailing with 19,145 votes.

The victory has made the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) make a comeback in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections after one year. 

The Candidates

The NSUI has nominated Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, a postgraduate student of Buddhist Studies, for the president’s post. The ABVP has nominated Aryan Maan, a student of Library Science. The SFI-AISA alliance has nominated Anjali, a student of Indraprastha College for Women, as their presidential candidate.

Number of Votes per Candidate

ABVP’s Aryan Maan won the President’s post with 28,841 votes. NSUI’s Joslyn Chaudhary got 12,645 votes, and SFI-AISA’s candidate received 5,385 votes. An independent NSUI rebel candidate got 5,522 votes. For the Vice President post, NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla led with 29,339 votes, beating ABVP’s Govind Tanwar, who received 20,547 votes, and SFI-AISA’s candidate, who got 4,163 votes.

ABVP’s Kunal Chaudhary won the Secretary post with 23,779 votes, ahead of NSUI’s 16,177 votes and SFI-AISA’s 9,535 votes. Deepika Jha from ABVP claimed the Joint Secretary post with 21,825 votes, beating NSUI’s 17,380 votes and SFI-AISA’s 8,425 votes.

DUSU Elections

The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections happened on Thursday, September 19. According to the reports, more than 2.75 lakh eligible students cast their votes across over 50 constituent colleges. Voting took place at 52 centres with 195 booths, using 711 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The final voter turnout was 39.45 percent.

This year, 21 candidates are running for the four main student body posts: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. Nine candidates are competing for the President’s post, and the other 12 are contesting the remaining three positions.
