One of India’s fastest-growing planned cities, Noida, short for the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority has evolved into a busiest hub with residential and industrial complexes. The city which falls under the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh was established in 17 April 1976. Noida was developed with a vision for modern living, with focus on industrial and residential development. Today, it has grown into a hub for IT, media, and entertainment industries. Modern infrastructure, IT parks, educational institutions, and thriving real estate has transformed Noida’s picture over the past few decades.

Total population of Noida

With rapid urbanisation, Noida’s population has grown significantly as it has achieved the reputation of being the most sought locations for residential purposes. In this article, we will tell you the total population of Noida. The population in India is calculated through Census, which is a comprehensive process of enumerating every household and individual to collect detailed demographic, economic, and social data.

According to the 2011 Census of India, Noida had a population of 6,37,272, of which 349,397 are males while 287,875 are females. This data made Noida, the most populous urban center in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The city was categorised as Class I town (population above 1,00,000). Observations from the 2011 Census showed Noida having the largest share of urban population in the district along with signs of urbanisation and rapid growth. The Overall sex ratio was recorded at 824 females per 1000 males. Noida had the lowest sex ratio among all towns in the district.

Census in India

The Census of India is conducted under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990. The last census in India was conducted in 2011 in two phases, namely House Listing and Population Enumeration. The next decennial census was scheduled for 2021, however, it was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. The centre will now conduct Population Census in 2027 in two phases along with enumeration of castes. The reference date for the process will be 00:00 hours of the first day of March, 2027, as notified by the government.

Current estimates for 2025 suggest Noida’s population closer to 930,000, a notable rise from the previous census data.
