Bomb threats were reported on Friday morning targeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s residence and the Raj Bhavan in Chennai. Threats were also received at the state BJP headquarters and at the home of South Indian actress Trisha. Police have launched an investigation.
About a month ago, Stalin reportedly received a bomb threat ahead of the flag hoisting ceremony on August 15. The caller, identified as Ganesh, was taken into custody. The threat caused sudden panic within the police department and the surrounding area.
In July, Stalin’s Chennai residence received a similar bomb threat. The call was received by the control room of the Old Commissioner’s office. According to The Hindu, the caller, Vinothkumar, claimed a bomb had been placed in the Chief Minister’s house, which later turned out to be a hoax.
This adds to a series of bomb threats linked to Stalin. In 2024, a bomb threat email targeting the flight Stalin was to board to San Francisco triggered panic at Chennai airport. That threat was also declared a hoax after a thorough investigation.
In August 2023, a young man was arrested for issuing a bomb threat to Stalin’s residence. Reports stated that he claimed to have planted a bomb in the Chief Minister’s house before disconnecting the call.
