Mahindra has officially unveiled the Thar facelift, giving the car a slew of subtle changes that enhance its appearance. Beyond that, Mahindra has also added a bunch of new features to both the exterior and interior. Some of these changes are inspired by its 5-door sibling, the Thar Roxx.

Mahindra Thar Engine and Transmission Options

The Mahindra Thar facelift is powered by a range of turbo-petrol and turbo-diesel powertrains. The mStallion T-GDi turbo-petrol is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder unit that produces 152 bhp and 300 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 6-speed automatic version gets a slight bump to 320 Nm of torque.

The diesel variants are available in two states of tune: The mHawk 130 is a 2.2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit producing 132 bhp,While the D117 gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit producing 119 bhp.

Both diesel engines offer 300 Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre diesel comes with both 6MT and 6AT options, while the 1.5-litre diesel is available with a 6MT only.

When it comes to variant-wise engine availability, Mahindra has strategically segmented its offerings. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is reserved exclusively for the top-end LXT variant. This engine is available with both manual and automatic transmissions, and customers can opt for 4WD in both transmission options. However, in the petrol RWD configuration, the Thar is available only with the automatic transmission.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine is offered in the base AXTR and LXT variants, but is limited to manual transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD) only. This makes it a more budget-friendly and fuel-efficient option, especially for urban users.

On the other hand, the 2.2-litre diesel engine is available only with the top-end LXT variant. It comes with both manual and automatic transmission options, and features 4WD as standard, making it the go-to choice for serious off-roading enthusiasts.
