Bihar Elections- With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, the Election Commission has intensified its preparations by holding a series of meetings across the state. The meeting is set to continue on Sunday, October 5 with the Election Commission of India (ECI) scheduled to hold press conference at 2 pm today. Notably, on Saturday, the commission had held meeting with 12 political parties in Patna to discuss the upcoming polls.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, conducted a thorough review of the poll preparedness for the upcoming Elections. The ECI delegation, currently on a two-day visit to the state, will convene important meetings in Patna with enforcement agencies to ensure free and fair elections. After these discussions, the Election Commission is expected to brief the media on the current status of election readiness, highlighting measures taken to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Will poll dates be announced?
A press conference to share key developments, including a summary of preparedness measures reviewed so far, feedback received from political parties, and the roadmap for the coming weeks is scheduled for 2 pm on Sunday. It remains to be seen whether the ECI will announce the dates for the Bihar Assembly Elections today. So, far there is no official confirmation on this.
The schedule for today’s meeting is as follows:
9:30-11 am: Meet with enforcement agencies.
11:30 am-12 pm: Review session with the CEO, Bihar Police, and Central Force nodal officers.
12-1 pm: Meeting with the Bihar Chief Secretary, DGP, and other senior officials.
2 pm: Press conference by the Chief Election Commissioner.
After reviewing poll preparedness on Saturday, the ECI had issued a statement, with CEC Kumar calling political parties a “significant stakeholder of a strong democracy.” He called upon them to fully participate at every stage of the election process by appointing their polling and counting agents. The Commission also encouraged the political parties to wholeheartedly celebrate elections in a festive spirit along with the voters. According to the commission, the political parties thanked the poll body for successfully completing the historic Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and purifying the electoral rolls and reiterated their faith and trust in the electoral processes.
