Darjeeling Landslide- At Least 7 Killed as heavy rain wreaks havoc in West Bengal; Roads Blocked, Dudhia Bridge collapses News24 –


Darjeeling Landslide- At least seven people have died after a landslide occurred at Dilaram on the Kurseong-Darjeeling road on Sunday. Abhishek Roy, Additional SP of Kurseong in Darjeeling district police stated that rescue teams have recovered seven bodies from the debris and are working to find two more missing individuals. The landslide has blocked the Kurseong-Darjeeling road, and the Rohini Road is also closed due to another landslide at Gourishankar.

The condition of Pankhabari Road is reported to be extremely poor, while Tindharia Road remains open. Authorities are currently evacuating tourists from Mirik via the Tindharia route, aiming to complete the operation within three to four hours. Movement of vehicles has been restricted on the Siliguri-Darjeeling SH-12 road after a portion of Dudhia iron bridge collapsed due to heavy rain. 

West Bengal Legislative Assembly LoP and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took to X to inform about the destruction caused by heavy rainfall in the state. He informed that the hilly regions of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Kurseong have been severely affected. He has urged the Chief Secretary of West Bengal to immediately mobilise resources and make adequate arrangements for the swift restoration of communication networks in the affected areas.
