India’s star batter Virat Kohli heaped huge praise for Jemimah Rodrigues and the India’s women cricket team for winning the thrilling semi-final against Australia of Women’s World Cup. The match was held at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai where India delivered a standout performance and won the match leaving everyone stunned.

“What a victory by our team over a mighty opponent like Australia. A great chase by the girls and a standout performance by Jemimah in a big game. A true display of resilience, belief, and passion. Well done, Team India,” Virat Kohli posted.

India had a tough league phase and suffered three consecutive defeats against South Africa, Australia and England. But the Women in Blue made a solid comeback and won by five wickets against the might Aussies.

Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the match as she played the most magnificent innings of her career and took India towards a win. She remained unbeaten and scored 127 off 134 deliveries which included 14 fours. The hosts crossed the finish line with five wickets remaining and 9 balls still left spare. While everyone was emotional and celebrating, Jeminah broke down in tears, moments later she folded her hands and whispered heartfelt “thank you” in front of the crowd.

In India’s chase, Openers Shefali Varma and Smriti Mandhana were dismissed early and that’s when Jemimah and Harmanpreet stepped in. While the Indian skipper played a steady knock of 89 runs, Jemimah took the charge and kept Australia under pressure. Deepti Sharma (24) and Richa Ghosh (26) also contributed in the lower order but Amanjot Kaur sealed the deak with an unbeaten 15 off just 8 balls.
