Rohan Bopanna Retirement: Indian tennis legend Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement from professional tennis, ending a remarkable 20-year career filled with historic achievements and unforgettable moments. The 45-year-old took to social media to share his decision, reflecting on his journey from a small town in Coorg to the biggest arenas in the world.

Bopanna’s career highlights include winning the mixed doubles title at the 2017 French Open with Gabriela Dabrowski and the 2024 Australian Open men’s doubles with Matthew Ebden. He also reached multiple Grand Slam finals in both men’s and mixed doubles, including the US Open finals in 2010 and 2023, and partnered with Sania Mirza in the Australian Open mixed doubles finals of 2018 and 2023.

One of the most iconic chapters of his career was his partnership with Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. Known as the IND-PAK Express, the pair brought Asian tennis into the global spotlight, reaching the final of the 2010 US Open and winning hearts with their remarkable camaraderie on and off the court.

Bopanna’s last professional match came at the Paris Masters 1000, where he paired with Alexander Bublik. The duo fell to John Peers and James Tracy in a close Round of 32 match (5-7, 6-2, 10-8), marking the end of an era for Indian tennis fans.

In his emotional farewell message, Bopanna shared the journey that shaped him: from running through coffee estates and playing on cracked courts in Coorg, to standing under the lights of the world’s biggest arenas. “Tennis hasn’t been just a game for me — it has given me purpose when I was lost, strength when I was broken, and belief when the world doubted me,” he wrote.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family:

  • Parents, for their unwavering sacrifices and support.
  • Sister Rashmi, for being his constant cheerleader.
  • Wife Supriya, for standing by him through long travels, sleepless nights, and countless challenges.
  • Daughter Tridha, who gave him a new sense of purpose in the latter years of his career.

Bopanna’s career was not just about titles and records; it was about perseverance, resilience, and inspiring a generation of Indian and Asian tennis players. His journey from a small town to world No.1 status is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and love for the sport.

As Rohan Bopanna hangs up his racquet, the tennis world celebrates not only his achievements but also the passion, sportsmanship, and legacy he leaves behind.
