Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway: The much-awaited Lucknow-Kanpur expressway is ready and will soon be open to the public. Once operational, the 63-km-long stretch will cut travel time from 2 hours to almost half. Yes, you heard that right! The distance between the two major cities will be reduced to just 70 minutes.

New Expressway Likely To Open On…

The Lucknow-Kanpur expressway will likely welcome regular traffic any time after December 15, 2025. The construction work on the full stretch has been completed, and officials are now waiting for the final nod to throw it open to the public. According to a senior official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Lucknow project implementation unit is awaiting the final clearance and the inaugural date.

Cost And Route Details

The six-lane highway has been designated as National Expressway 6 (NE-6) by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The stretch starts near Shaheed Path in Lucknow and ends at Azad Marg in Kanpur. The route includes both a 45-kilometer green field section and an 18-kilometer elevated section.

Six-Lane Expressway Set To Transform Travel

The new six-lane Kanpur-Lucknow expressway is expected to ease travel for daily commuters as well as long-distance travelers. With 99 percent of the work already completed, the carriageway linking Sarojininagar on the outskirts of Lucknow to Unnao’s Shuklaganj, close to the River Ganga, will facilitate the flow of vehicular movement at a maximum speed range of 120 km/h.

According to reports, trial runs have been recently carried out on the access-controlled Lucknow-Kanpur expressway to manage a surge in traffic. Plans are underway to set up an interchange that will allow commuters to travel via the Ganga Expressway.
