IMD Weather Update: As winter conditions set in, India is witnessing a transition in weather patterns across various regions. Northern and central parts of the country are experiencing a gradual drop in night temperatures, while some areas are expected to reel under cold wave conditions in coming days. Meanwhile, the southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu and Kerala, are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall and isolated heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at several places.
Rain to lash southern states
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), most parts of the country are expected to remain largely dry with no significant weather events during this period. Notably, a Western Disturbance currently lies over north Punjab and neighbourhood, influencing the weather in northern states. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Puducherry and Karaikal on Sunday, November 9.
Temperature and cold wave alert forecast
In view of the current weather conditions, IMD has issued temperature and cold wave forecast. According to the weather body, cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in some parts of East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh during November 9-10. Night temperatures are expected to fall below 10°C and remain 4-7°C below normal in some areas of East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, South Punjab, and South Haryana. While night temperatures are likely to be 2–4°C below normal in parts of Delhi, east Madhya Pradesh, west Rajasthan, north Maharashtra, and western Uttar Pradesh during the same period.
Delhi weather forecast
For Delhi, the IMD has predicted mist/shallow fog during morning hours on from November 9 to 11 November and mist/haze thereafter. The minimum and maximum temperatures are currently in the range of 10-12°C and 25-27°C respectively. Delhi is also experiencing the effects of an active western disturbance, in form of westerly winds and drop in temperatures.
