The result of Bihar Assembly Elections were announced on Friday, November 14, in which the ruling NDA achieved a decisive victory, with the BJP emerging as the single largest party and its ally, JDU finishing a close second. According to the Election Commission, the BJP won 89 seats, while JDU secured 85. The RJD won 25 seats, and the LJP claimed 19. Congress won 6 seats, AIMIM 5, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS) 5, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RSHTLKM) 4, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) 2, Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) 1, Communist Party of India (Marxist) 1, and BSP 1.
While NDA registered a sweeping victory, the Mahagathbandhan led by Tejashwi Yadav crumbled like a pack of cards. Despite the NDA storm, Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM managed to hold its ground in Seemanchal. The NDA alliance won a total of 202 seats, whereas the Grand Alliance could manage only 35. Owaisi’s party recaptured five seats in Seemanchal, including three constituencies where the MLAs had joined the RJD after winning the previous election.
AIMIM recaptures RJD seats in Seemanchal
From the results of 2025 assembly elections, it is clear that AIMIM continues to exert influence in the Seemanchal region, much like it did in the 2020 elections. Even amid the overwhelming wave of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Owaisi’s AIMIM managed to retain its stronghold and maintain the influence. These are the very seats that AIMIM had demanded from the Grand Alliance before the elections, highlighting the party’s strategic positioning in the region.
Notably, AIMIM’s Murshid Alam won from Jokihat, Tausif Alam from Bahadurganj, Sarwar Alam from Kochadhaman, Akhtarul Iman from Amour, and Ghulam Sarwar from Baisi. AIMIM managed to maintain its influence in the Seemanchal region, which has the highest Muslim population. With this victory, Owaisi has also avenged his 2020 defeat against Tejashwi Yadav.
What had happened?
Three years ago, Tejashwi dealt a major blow to Owaisi’s AIMIM by getting four of the party’s five MLAs to join the RJD. However, in the Bihar elections, Tejashwi suffered a strong setback not just in Seemanchal but across the state. During the election campaign for 2025 elections, Owaisi had promised to take revenge for the four MLAs by contesting 24 seats in Seemanchal. AIMIM, in alliance with Pashupati Paras, Swami Prasad, and Chandrashekhar Azad, fielded 25 candidates. Out of these, five candidates won in Kishanganj, Araria, and Purnia, exactly the five seats that AIMIM had won in 2020. Of the four MLAs who had joined the RJD, three were denied tickets in this election, and the one who did get a ticket finished in third place.
Relationship with Seemanchal will never end: Owaisi
After securing a victory in these Seemanchal seats once again, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi stated that the victory was not his alone, but rather the result of “the people of Seemanchal and the mercy of Allah.” Owaisi further emphasizsed that despite all the rumours, allegations, and being branded as the “B-team,” the public has reaffirmed their support, sending a clear message, “The relationship has never ended, and it will never end. As long as Owaisi is alive, and even after him.”
Owaisi takes a dig at Tejashwi
As the RJD suffered a crushing defeat in this election, Owaisi took a dig at its leader Tejashwi. He said, “How can a person who couldn’t convince his elder brother unite the people of Bihar?” Taking a jibe, Owaisi further said, “Now they will say that we defeated Lalu Ji’s son. We are like the beloved of politics, people may throw stones at us, but we will endure it.”
