Is Lalu Prasad Yadav responsible for RJD’s collapse in Bihar? The significant impact of sowing seeds of ‘enmity’ on election results 2025 News24 –
Bihar News: In the way that Kumar Sanu became the undisputed “Melody King” of Bollywood in the 1990s, Lalu Prasad Yadav became the inevitable figure of Bihar. One is a legendary playback singer. Another one is a politician who receives a lot of attention. Both are different in every aspect of their lives. However, both celebrities saw phenomenal success and fame throughout the 1990s.
Minister of Railway to Loss of Power
By the end of the decade, Lalu Yadav was involved in legal troubles and his wife, Rabri Devi, was named chief minister. Lalu became the Minister of Railways in the UPA government following the removal NDA from the thrown of Delhi in 2004. Lalu was seen by many as unbeatable. But Nitish Kumar was overthrown in Bihar in 2005. The 2009 Lok Sabha elections marked the completion of the remaining work. He wasn’t even appointed a minister in UPA 2. He then suffered a second loss of power in Bihar in 2010. It was clear to Lalu that his time was over. Nevertheless, he gave it his all during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but Narendra Modi’s cyclone destroyed him.
Collab With Nitish Kumar
Lalu Yadav then took a major step that even caused the BJP to lose. Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, his two sons, entered politics together with Nitish Kumar during the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. Lalu Yadav was always getting it right. He became known as the most prominent figure in Bihar politics while being out of office. He established himself as Bihar’s ultimate ‘king maker’ by collaborating with Nitish Kumar. With Nitish Kumar’s help, his two sons not only won the assembly elections but went on to become ministers.
Lalu Yadav and His Big Mistake
Lalu Yadav made the error that led to RJD’s downfall in 2025 election. Tejashwi Yadav was appointed deputy chief minister, replacing his older son Tej Pratap. Tej had to be satisfied with the minister’s position. Lalu’s decision surprised everyone, even Tej Pratap. If it was very necessary to appoint only one deputy chief minister, why not Tej Pratap and why Tejashwi?
Seeds of ‘Enmity’
Most likely, Lalu Yadav was ignorant of this decision’s overall significance. He unknowingly sowed the seeds of “enmity” among his family members. Lalu Yadav never replied to this, the public was informed that Tejashwi Yadav was trusted because of Tej Pratap Yadav’s tendency toward anger. Then Tej Pratap started calling himself Shri Krishna and Tejashwi as Arjuna. Tej Pratap Yadav appeared to have agreed to what was taking place as well. This topic began to fade with time, but every time Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi were spotted together, everyone would wonder why Lalu Yadav made that choice.
Broke Up with Nitish
In 2017, Nitish Kumar broke up with Lalu Yadav and joined the NDA. Lalu Yadav’s sons’ careers appeared to have finished before they had a chance. On May 12, 2018, Tej Pratap Yadav tied the knot at the Veterinary College grounds in Patna. Aishwarya Rai, grand daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai and former minister in the Bihar government tied the knot with Tej Pratap. Every VVIP in the nation attended the wedding, including PM Modi.
Tej Pratap Divorce Controversy
Tej Pratap Yadav filed for divorce from Aishwarya in the Patna Family Court on November 3, 2018, which was six months later. Aishwarya Rai’s abuse and his accusations surrounded the entire Lalu family, yet in a matter of days, Tej Pratap Yadav was held solely accountable for this separation. The general public also believed Tej Pratap Yadav was at fault. Tejashwi Yadav, meanwhile, skillfully avoided this scandal. Then everyone speculated that this might be the reason Lalu Yadav selected Tejashwi over Tej Pratap.
Tejashwi Ranked Second Behind Lalu
Tejashwi’s standing in the party gradually grew, and he was unquestionably ranked second behind Lalu Yadav. At the same time, Tej Pratap’s influence inside the party was also declining. He was not even valued by Jagdanand Singh, the state president. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Tejashwi Yadav engaged in confrontation with his older brother. Tickets for Tej Pratap’s nominated candidates were not issued. Tej Pratap Yadav discussed it in a number of public speeches. The main thing he disliked was that his father-in-law, Chandrika Rai, received a ticket from the RJD. Misa Bharti, Lalu’s daughter revolted against Pataliputra’s ticket as well, but she immediately sided with Tejashwi Yadav.

Tejashwi Becomes Lightning-Fast Leader
Lalu Yadav selected Tejashwi Yadav as the Grand Alliance’s chief ministerial candidate in the 2020 assembly elections. The Congress was granted many seats in exchange for this. Tejashwi Yadav’s reputation as a lightning-fast leader was established and this election was conducted on the promise of employment. Tejashwi was also observed making every effort to distance himself from Lalu Yadav’s image.
Collaboration with Nitish for the Second Time
The situation was such that the RJD had reached the threshold of power but was unable to obtain it due to the Congress’s poor performance. The NDA eventually regained power. Nitish Kumar was in the most insecure position since 2005. Sensing Nitish Kumar’s condition, Lalu Yadav once again worked his magic and returned to power in 2022. The formula – Nitish is the chief minister, and Tejashwi is the deputy chief minister. Tej Pratap Yadav gets re-appointed as minister once again, and it was considered again that Lalu Yadav’s political ability was unmatched in Bihar. Tej Pratap, on the other hand, appeared to be uncomfortable but did not speak publicly.
Full Freedom to Tejashwi, Lalu Silent
Now that Tejashwi Yadav has been granted complete freedom, Lalu Yadav becomes full silent. However, Nitish Kumar rejoined the NDA right before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. By that time, however, Tejashwi Yadav had taken total control of RJD. Tejashwi was in charge of everything from ticket distribution to dealing with Congress during the 2024 elections. In a sense, Tej Pratap was neglected. In contrast to the image of Lalu Yadav, RJD began to spin itself into Tejashwi Yadav. Tej Pratap, Lalu Yadav, and Rabri Devi began to vanish even from the posters.

Tejashwi Becomes Equal to Lalu
With the assistance of his childhood friend Sanjay Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav developed his domination in the party, although nobody acknowledged it—everyone was aware of it. Tejashwi Yadav was granted all of Lalu Yadav’s authority during the party’s national executive meeting, which took place in the Patna Maurya Hotel on January 8, 2025. In other words, Tejashwi was now at equal with RJD supremo Lalu.
Tej Pratap Facebook Scandal
Lalu Yadav expelled his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav from the party and family following his Facebook scandal in May 2025. Tej Pratap was hesitant at first, but after starting his own party, Jan shakti Janata Dal, he opened up about the “chaos” in the family in a number of places. Tejashwi Yadav supported the RJD candidate in Tej Pratap’s Mahua seat, and Tej Pratap supported his candidate in Raghopur. Tej Pratap thus lost, while Tejashwi luckily managed to keep his seat in some way. RJD was only able to secure 25 seats in the Bihar Assembly elections (The RJD had won 75 seats in 2020).
Perhaps things would not have been so bad if Tej Pratap and Tejashwi had been together. Additionally, Yadav voters were confused about RJD. Although Tej Pratap’s party received a low vote percentage, it harmed Tejashwi’s reputation in Bihar by demonstrating that he was unable to keep up with his brother. It is evident that the RJD and his family have been neglected as a result of Lalu Yadav’s miscalculation. Tej Pratap has stated that he will never return to RJD, although he would like to die. He finds it quite challenging to return to the party and family in such a situation. If Lalu Yadav had put Tej Pratap ahead and Tejashwi and he failed, perhaps this would not have occurred. “Why not Tej Pratap and why Tejashwi?” is a question that neither Tej Pratap nor the public at large ever ask themselves.
