Who is Rameez Khan? The man accused by Rohini Acharya of creating rift in Lalu Yadav family, he is from…, not Bihar News24 –

Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Yadav, announced on Saturday that she is leaving politics and cutting ties with her family. Her decision came just a day after the RJD faced a major defeat in the assembly elections, winning only 25 out of 243 seats. She told the media that she stepped away because RJD MP Sanjay Yadav advised her to do so. Sanjay Yadav is a close aide of her brother, Tejashwi Yadav. Rohini, who once donated a kidney to her father, said, “This is what Sanjay Yadav asked me to do.”

A new name surfaces: Rameez Nemat Khan

She also mentioned another name — Rameez Nemat Khan. His name, which had never been visible in the media or Bihar’s political space before this incident, has now come into focus because of her remarks.

It was later found that Rameez Nemat Khan has been a long-time friend of Tejashwi Yadav and is part of his close team. Their bond began on the cricket field and later continued into politics. According to RJD sources, Khan helps manage Tejashwi’s social media and campaign activities.

Rameez Nemat Khan is from Uttar Pradesh and is the son-in-law of former MP Rizwan Zaheer, who represented the Balrampur (now Shravasti) Lok Sabha seat. Rizwan Zaheer has been an MP twice on a Samajwadi Party ticket and also worked with Mayawati’s BSP. At one time, he was also the youngest MLA in Uttar Pradesh.

Rameez Khan’s wife, Zeba Rizwan, contested elections twice from the Tulsipur seat — once on a Congress ticket and once as an independent — but was unsuccessful both times. In 2021, Rameez Nemat Khan was named in a case related to violence during the Tulsipur district panchayat elections. He was accused of attacking Congress leader Deepankar Singh and his supporters.

Legal Cases and Controversies

Later, in 2022, Rameez, along with his wife, his father-in-law Rizwan Zaheer, and three others, was arrested for allegedly being part of a conspiracy connected to the murder of Firoz Pappu, the former head of the Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat. Over the years, Rameez has received bail in several cases, while some others are still ongoing. In total, nine cases have been registered against him in Balrampur and two in Kaushambi.

He also faces serious allegations in another murder case from 2023 involving Pratapgarh contractor Shakeel Khan, whose body was found near railway tracks in Kushinagar. Rameez was named as an accused based on a complaint filed by the contractor’s wife.

During the same year, the Uttar Pradesh government seized land worth around ₹4.75 crore that was purchased in Rameez’s name. In July 2024, he was arrested under the Gangsters Act and was eventually granted bail in April this year.

Rameez Nemat Khan and his wife later approached the Supreme Court, which ordered that the authorities must get permission from the local court before arresting him or starting any new trial. After this ruling, the couple received relief in several cases, and no fresh cases have been registered against them.

Education, Early life & link to Tejashwi

Rameez Nemat Khan was born in November 1986. His father, Nematullah Khan, works as a professor at Jamia Millia Islamia.

Rameez studied at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, and completed his BA and MBA from Jamia. He has been passionate about cricket since childhood and played for different age-group teams in Delhi and Jharkhand. He even captained the Jharkhand Under-22 team in the 2008–09 season. It was during his cricketing years that he became friends with Tejashwi Yadav, which later opened the door to his political journey. In 2016, he joined the RJD and has since been an important part of Tejashwi Yadav’s team.
