After getting a massive mandate in the Bihar Assembly polls 2025, the process of government formation will begin soon. According to media reports, Nitish Kumar will once again take charge of Bihar. A meeting will be held with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and it is anticipated that the new government will be formed in the next three days after the cabinet is finalised.
Media reports have suggested that the oath-taking ceremony will be held on November 19 or November 20. However, it will depend on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme.
The BJP won 89 seats, while JD(U) bagged 85 seats in the assembly polls. The NDA’s other allies, like LJP (RV), clinched 19 seats, and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) got 5 seats.
After the notification issued for the formation of the 18th Assembly, the process of forming a new government has been expedited. The Election Commission will inform Governor Arif Mohammad Khan about the final results, and the model code of conduct will come to an end.
Nitish Kumar has called a cabinet meeting on Monday, where it is being speculated that the government will bring a proposal to dissolve the 17th Assembly. After the meeting, Nitish Kumar will meet the Governor and tender his resignation. This would pave the way for the formation of a new government. Later, the MLAs of the NDA will elect the leader of the legislative party of the alliance, and afterwards, they will stake claim for the next government formation.
After receiving date confirmation from the Prime Minister, the date of the oath-taking ceremony will be decided. Preparations for the NDA’s show of strength have already begun, which will take place at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan. The event will witness a gathering of senior leaders for Nitish Kumar’s oath-taking ceremony, as he will take the oath for the 10th time.
It is reportedly said that Union Ministers, leaders of the NDA, BJP-ruled Chief Ministers, Deputy CMs, and senior leaders of the alliance will attend the occasion, as the NDA is also planning to showcase its strength ahead of the West Bengal elections.
Reports have also suggested that the formula for government formation has been finalised during the meeting with the Union Home Minister. The BJP will have a higher stake in the cabinet, followed by JD(U), and other allies will also get their share according to the seats they won in the elections. It is being reported that one minister will take oath for every six MLAs.
According to reports, the BJP may get 15 or 16 cabinet berths, while JD(U) is likely to get 14 berths. LJP (RV) may get three berths, while Jitan Ram Manjhi’s and Upendra Kushwaha’s parties may get one berth each.
