What is Ricin?

Ricin is a highly toxic natural protein found in the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis). This is the same plant whose oil is used in medicines, soaps, machinery, and many other household items. However, the ricin hidden in the seeds is deadly enough to be listed as a biological weapon.

Ricin, in its deadly form, is a white, fine, odorless, tasteless powder. Swallowing, inhaling, or injecting it can be fatal. Fortunately, it is not contagious and does not spread from person to person. But if it is dispersed through air or water, it can cause massive devastation.
