Why Bret Hart Wishes He Had the Chance To Wrestle John Cena
When John Cena joined the main roster of WWE in June 2002, he was five years too late to face Bret Hart in the ring at WWE. Bret departed WWE in November 1997 for WCW, and his career was prematurely finished two years later in WCW. Historically, Bret is rather familiar with getting grumpy over some wrestlers, but he was very supportive of Cena as a WWE superstar when he talked about that during his recent public appearance, when asked about wrestlers he would have loved to have battled.
Bret Hart’s Statement
“John Cena would be up [there]. Can you imagine John Cena with the US/Canada thing that I had going? Hypothetically, say the Screwjob never happened and I was still in the WWF; that would have happened. I would have worked with John Cena, and we would have done amazing stuff.
I’ve always been really impressed by John Cena. I’ll just say this: when I went back there in 2010, I found John Cena to be very comparable to me in the sense that he was a serious professional. He was a detail guy who went over every little detail in the match. I remember watching him go over the match with different wrestlers and being around him. I remember going, ‘That’s what I used to do.’
I found John Cena to be just such a professional. I would have loved to have worked with him.”
