Harshit Rana Fined for ICC code breach after ‘Harsh Gesture’ towards THIS Player, name of player is… News24 –

Harshit Rana Fined: India pacer Harshit Rana has been officially reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi. The incident took place in the 22nd over when Rana dismissed Dewald Brevis and followed it up with a gesture toward the visiting dressing room, something the match officials deemed provocative.

ICC Match Referee on this fine

The ICC confirmed on Wednesday, ahead of the second ODI, that Rana’s actions fell under Article 2.5, which deals with “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter.” Rana accepted the charge from match referee Richie Richardson, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.

Along with the reprimand, the fast bowler has also been handed one demerit point his first in the last 24 months. For context, Level 1 offences are the mildest category under the ICC’s disciplinary system and can result in an official warning, a fine of up to 50% of a match fee, and one to two demerit points.

India eyes series win

While the punishment won’t affect Rana’s immediate availability, it’s a reminder that emotions on the field can have consequences. With the series still alive and tensions high, India will hope the young quick keeps his aggression focused strictly on the cricket.
