DCW vs MIW: Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet star as DC routed by 50 runs

DCW vs MIW Match Report: In a clinical display of power and precision, the Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their first win of the WPL 2026 season, defeating the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 50 runs at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy on Saturday night. After a heartbreaking loss in their opener, the defending champions bounced back with a “statement” performance that silenced any doubts about their form.

Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Take Charge

Sent in to bat by Delhi’s debutant captain Jemimah Rodrigues, Mumbai got off to a shaky start. Amelia Kerr’s struggles continued as she fell for a golden duck, and when the young G. Kamalini departed for 16, MI looked in a spot of bother at 43/2.

However, the game shifted dramatically when Nat Sciver-Brunt and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur joined forces. The duo put on an explosive batting display, Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed a fluent 70 off 46 balls, anchoring the innings with a mix of classical drives and innovative scoops.

The captain, Harmanpreet Kaur played a scorching unbeaten knock of 74 off just 42 balls. She saved her best for the final over, dispatching three successive boundaries to propel Mumbai to a massive 195/4.

Despite a decent debut from DC’s Nandani Sharma (2/26), the Capitals’ bowlers struggled to contain the flurry of boundaries in the death overs.

Delhi’s Top Order Dismantled

Chasing 196 was always going to be a mountainous task, but Delhi’s hopes were dashed within the first seven overs. Mumbai’s bowling attack, led by the “wrecker-in-chief” Nicola Carey, systematically dismantled the DC top order.

In a game-changing spell, Carey removed Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt in the same over before returning to claim the prized wicket of Marizanne Kapp.

17-year-old wicketkeeper G. Kamalini provided the highlight of the night, a spectacular one-handed diving catch to dismiss Jemimah Rodrigues for just 1. By the 7th over, Delhi were reeling at 46/5, and the match was effectively over as a contest.

Late Resistance and Clinical Finish

While the result was a foregone conclusion, Chinelle Henry provided some entertainment for the Delhi fans. She waged a lone battle, smashing a fighting 56 off 33 balls to bring some respectability to the scorecard.

However, Amelia Kerr ensured there was no miracle comeback. After a poor outing with the bat, Kerr was “redoubtable” with the ball, picking up 3/24 to clean up the tail. Delhi were eventually restricted to 145, handing Mumbai a massive boost to their Net Run Rate.
