T20 WC 2026 Turmoil: Amid ICC-BCB Rift, BCCI Finally Breaks Silence on Relocation of Bangladesh’s Games

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has given a clear verdict that the board hasn’t received any update about the reported shifting in venue for Bangladesh matches. He mentioned that it is a matter of discussion between International Cricket Council (ICC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

“The BCCI has not received any communication regarding the matter of shifting Bangladesh matches to Chennai or anywhere else, and it is beyond our control. It is a matter of communication between the BCB and the ICC, as the ICC is the governing body. If the ICC conveys any decision to us regarding a change of venue, the BCCI, as the host, will take the necessary steps. At present, we are not privy to any such information,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told IANS.

India and Sri Lanka are all set to host the T20 World Cup matches which will be starting from February 7. The Bangladesh Cricket Board wrote a letter to ICC, after BCCI gave directive to Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman from their team amid escalating tensions between India and Bangladesh. The move triggered BCB and they requested ICC for a venue change of their T20 matches from India citing security concerns.

According to the schedule of T20 World Cup, Bangladesh have four matches scheduled which will be played in India. First against West Indies (7 Feb), then against Italy, England and Nepal on 9, 14 and 17 February.
