Delhi Airport Closed: Amid disruptions caused by winter fog, passengers flying in and out of Delhi are set to face additional difficulties in travel starting January 21, 2026. Airspace will be closed for six days until the 26th, leading to flight delays or cancellations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
Delhi Airport to be shut down for 6 days from…
The closure of airspace, announced through a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), on Tuesday comes ahead of the Republic Day. Delhi Airport will be shut down daily for two hours and twenty-five minutes from 10:20 AM to 12:45 PM. The restriction has been imposed keeping in mind safety protocols for parade and dress rehearsals, and the main ceremonial flypast along Kartavya Path.
This will potentially lead to chaos as airlines adjust flight timings, verify and reroute the affected passengers, or offer refunds and make required changes.
600+ flights expected to be hit
Between January 21 and 26, more than 600 flights could be hit, impacting thousands of passengers, HT reported. However, the affected flights may not necessarily be cancelled but may be rescheduled. Additionally, the impact will also be felt at several other airports where the plane is destined to land or en route to Delhi.
Passenger guidelines
If you are scheduled to fly in or out of Delhi on the above-mentioned date and timings, check for regular updates on your flight status from your respective airlines to avoid last-minute rush or chaos. In the event of a cancellation, a full refund or alternative options will be provided. Passengers must also note that during such a period, airfares are likely to be higher than when the flight tickets were booked.
