Bangladesh cricketers take SHOCKING bold stand, Boycott BPL match over unresolved issues with board, decide to…

On Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board sent a showcause notice to its director, M Najmul Islam, over his comments about the country’s players during the ongoing dispute with India. The board also expressed hope that the upset players would call off their boycott, which could affect the main T20 league.

Why was the toss delayed?

The toss for Thursday’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Noakhali Express and Chattogram Royals has been postponed, with media reports saying it’s because neither team has arrived at the ground. The players have warned they will stop playing cricket unless Islam steps down.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reiterates its regret over the recent objectionable comments made by a member of the Board. The BCB acknowledges the concern caused by the remarks and wishes to reaffirm its commitment to professionalism, respect for cricketers and the values that nurture the game of cricket,” the BCB stated in a press release.

“…the Board has already initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against the Board member concerned. A show-cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been instructed to submit a written response within 48 hours,” it added.

How did the controversy begin?

The controversy began when Najmul, while restating Bangladesh’s decision not to go to India for next month’s T20 World Cup, dismissed worries about player payments if the team pulled out. He said the players would not receive any money because they have not earned the support given to them so far.

Bangladesh is refusing to travel to India

Bangladesh is refusing to travel to India, pointing to security worries after pacer Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the IPL on the BCCI’s orders due to unspecified “developments all around.” The team is still in discussions with the ICC to find a solution, after the world body showed hesitation to move Bangladesh’s four matches in India to Sri Lanka.

The BCB said it would take action against Najmul but asked the players not to stop playing cricket.
