Bad news for Bangladesh, BPL 2026 may be suspended due to…

Mohammad Mithun who is the president of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), said on Thursday that players will refuse to play unless M Nazmul Islam steps down from his role at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Why M Nazmul came under strong criticism?

M Nazmul who is a director at the BCB, he has come under strong criticism for making offensive comments about former captain Tamim Iqbal, whom he is said to have called an “Indian agent.” On Thursday, games in both the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the Dhaka Cricket League were stopped after the CWAB announced a countrywide strike by players.

When will players return to the field?

Mohammad Mithun who is also the captain of BPL team Sylhet Titans, he said that players are ready to return to the field as soon as Nazmul is removed from the board.

What were the statements?

“We definitely want to play, but only after our demands are met,” speaking at a press meet in Dhaka, Mithun said the BCB should pay the players if Nazmul does not step down within the next 48 hours.

“The BCB has stated it will take around 48 hours for the official to resign. Even if we play the second game today, what happens if he doesn’t resign after those 48 hours? We will simply stop the BPL again,” Mithun warned.

“If the BCB gives us a written guarantee that he will resign within 48 hours, we will play today. Otherwise, the board will have to compensate the players. The BCB is yet to respond to our demands.”

Responding to Nazmul’s comments about Tamim, Mithun said he should not represent Bangladesh cricket in any way. Pointing to the problems in Dhaka First Division Cricket, CWAB members listed five main demands, with Nazmul stepping down as their top priority.

Mithun also blamed the BCB for dragging the issue, saying the delay is only worsening the situation. As reported by Prothom Alo, Nazmul has been removed from his role at the BCB, but a formal statement is still expected.
