Becky Lynch was adamant about keeping her character intact during a WWE SmackDown scene. Lynch has been the biggest villain in the women’s roster for almost the entirety of last year. In the summer of 2025, she was embroiled in a long dispute with Lyra Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Towards the end of 2025 and the start of 2026, she was involved in a feud with Maxxine Dupri regarding the same title, the climax of which was Lynch regaining the championship from Dupri on the very first Raw of 2026.
Becky Lynch retains title as heel turn stuns fans
Becky Lynch held on to her title against Maxxine Dupri with the unexpected help of Natalya, who, during the match, turned heel on Dupri, this happening on WWE Raw in London this past Monday. When WWE brought SmackDown to Ireland last August 22nd, it was a huge deal for Lynch, as the future WWE Hall of Famer Becky Lynch is from Ireland. At the beginning of the show, the fans gave a loud ovation to Lynch when she made her entrance, but shortly after that, she turned against them by stating that she wanted the show to be called off, as the audience in Dublin was not worthy of WWE TV.
Becky Lynch reflects on emotional heel turn in front of Irish crowd
In a conversation with ‘The Irish Sun,’ Lynch admitted that it was emotional for her to have had to play the heel on television.
“They used a lot of profanity. They may have said, ‘Shut the F up.’ But they didn’t say ‘F.’ They said the other word.
I came out with sunglasses. You couldn’t tell that, behind those sunglasses, there was tears in my eyes that this huge moment that I had always wanted had finally happened, and to hear the response from the crowd, to be the first woman to walk out there while we were live on SmackDown, was absolutely incredible.
And then beyond that, I got to tell them everything that I really thought and how they didn’t deserve it and they didn’t appreciate me, and that felt even better.”
