India’s T20 World Cup prep gets major boost as Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar near full fitness


In a major boost for the Indian Cricket Team ahead of the T20 World Cup, Tilak Varma is expected to receive fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The talented batter is now recovering from abdominal surgery and is scheduled to feature in a match on Friday as a part of his rehabilitation.

According to a report by Times of India, Varma was initially expected to join the squad from 4th and 5th T20I against New Zealand but he is still recovering and his participation will depend on achieving full fitness.

All-rounder Washington Sundar is another key player in spotlight who is gearing up to rejoin the squad. The Indian Express reports that Sundar has resumed batting and will also start bowling in the upcoming days. The off-spinner had suffered a minor fracture, but his recovery is progressing as planned.

Tilak Varma is expected to arrive in Mumbai on February 3 but it all depends on his match readiness. The Indian Team will also play two warm-up games before the T20 World Cup starts on February 7 where the Men in Blue will first play against USA.

Then India will play against Namibia following which the most thrilling match will be against Pakistan on February 15. Their final group game is scheduled against the Netherlands on February 18.
