What happened to Carlos Alcaraz? Big injury scare in Australian Open semi-final as physio rushes in

There is a major injury scare for Carlos Alcaraz in the ongoing Australian Open semi-final against Alexander Zverev despite being firmly in control of the match. The World no.1 tennis star looked in great form in the first two sets following which he appeared in discomfort while serving 4-4 in the third set which left all the fans and commentators concerned.

The Spaniard was also seen clutching his leg mid-game and opted to call the physio at the following changeover. Alcaraz was then treated during a medial timeout and the staff was seen massaging his leg. The unexpected stoppage raised questions about his physical condition at a crucial stage of the match.

Zverev was seen visibly frustrated with the interruption and the German believed that Alcaraz was struggling with a cramp rather than an injury which doesn’t really warrant for a medical timeout. The tensions escalated when chair umpire delayed in starting the clock while he was checking up on Alcaraz and the medical timeout was again granted.

The incident changed the momentum and atmosphere on court with a lot of uncertainty looming around Alcaraz’s fitness despite him having a dominant position in the match. The play eventually resumed but the whole incident sparked debate over injury protocols and concern in the Australian Open semi-final.
