Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel Variants Discontinued

Maruti Suzuki has officially discontinued the 1.3-litre diesel engine on their popular Swift hatchback. The popular Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback will now be available with a single petrol engine offering, compliant with the latest BS6 emission norms.

The company had previously confirmed that the Fiat-sourced diesel unit will not be updated once the stringent BS6 emission norms are implemented. The engine came in the form of a 1.3-litre multijet four-cylinder unit. It produced 74bhp and 190Nm of peak torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission as standard with the optional AMT gearbox as well.

The engine was a popular unit and featured on multiple other models in the brand’s lineup as well. Maruti Suzuki took the decision to discontinue the engine as the investment required to update the diesel unit was too high. Hence, the Maruti Swift hatchback is now offered with a single petrol engine option.

This comes in the form of a 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit producing 83bhp and 113Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a five-speed manual or an optional AMT automatic transmission unit. This engine has been updated to comply with the BS6 emission norms.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is offered in a range of four variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. The base-spec variant is offered with a price tag of Rs 5.19 lakh while the top-spec trim is priced at Rs 8.02 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki recently updated the Swift hatchback in the Indian market. The new 2020 Maruti Swift now comes with an updated infotainment system, featuring the brand’s latest SmartPlay Studio. Apart from the addition of the new infotainment system, no other changes have been made to the 2020 Swift hatchback. Prices for the updated model have also remained unchanged.
