Indians seek a right balance of performance and 5 seater capacity along with superior mileage and hence we have often seen that the 600 cc 3 cylinder engine Japanese models were not imported to India, rather Suzuki developed a new iteration that was specifically meant for the Indian market. 

Even if there is a new Alto under development its possible that Suzuki might give it a significant overhaul performance wise before launching it in India. Ever since its launch the car has not been equipped with a engine that was smaller than that of 800cc capacity.  So its possible that the new 650 cc equipped car might not be launched in India.
