A union of Retro Styling with advanced engines and high-tech features often provides the users with a vehicle that is a perfect exemplar of an oxymoron. The intrinsic elements that are added in communion together are drastically diverse and arrive to be in a communion after different phases of genesis. The BMW R12 GS provides users with similar attributes.
The new dual-purpose G/S range is said to be inspired by the original R80 G/S . The bike uses advanced 1170 cc boxer twin as the rest of the R12 family, and stands at 229 Kg ready to ride. The R12 has the same power figures as the rest of the bikes in the family with a 107.3 bhp @ 7000 rpm , with a torque figure of around 84.9 Lb/ft of torque @ 6500 rpm. The engine is shrouded within a space frame tubular chassis that provides the bike its easy riding capabilities and movability.
Added Features
Since the bike would be used for adventure it has two steel eyelets to help tie down the luggage, plus the bike also has a taller steer angle and a bolt-on Tubular chassis. The Tank capacity is now around 15.5 liter and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, to ensure that the bike is capable of handling the off-road duties it might be subjected to. The Bike has also been equipped with a high-mounted left-side exhaust silencer, beyond that such a silencer would further increase the off-road prowess of the bike. The Abbreviation GS has been snatched from the legendary R80 G/S where the G/S stands for Gelande/Strabe- which means Off-Road / Street)
Enduro Package
While the bike might appear to have a dated look due to its retro styling patina it also all the advanced ride enabling features such as Rain, Road and Enduro, beyond that the bike also has a traction control as standard and an additional Enduro map that is reserved for when the riders opt to install Enduro Package Pro Equipment.
The Enduro addon’s further help the riders deactivate the traction control and rear ABS or set it in such a way that it interferes with the ride minimally. The Quickshifter would be an extra add on as well.
Suspension
The suspension duties would be handled by 45 mm fully – adjustable upside down forks up front and the rear is suspended with the help of a 200mm fully adjustable shock. The swingarm is similar to that of the Para-lever swingarm in place as that of the rest of the R12 range.
