Volkswagen is all set to introduce a new competitor in the D segment in the guise of the Tayron to the Indian Shores. The car was recently spied testing on Indian Roads further establishing the possible launch Plans. And the car would sit above the existing Tiguan in Volkswagen lineup in India. The car would be launched before the festive season.
The Tayron has been a global product for Volkswagen, over the years, the vehicle has been able to bring commendable sales and recognition to the brand. The India bound version would have a long wheelbase, 7-seater Variant that would soon replace the Tiguan Allspace.
MQB platform
The MQB platform is the company’s modular design construction, meant for the brand’s Transverse front engined, front wheel drive vehicles and four wheel drive layout. The Volkswagen Golf Mk7 was the first vehicle that was constructed on the platform. The platform has enabled Volkswagen to streamline its production facilities and produce any of its cars based on this platform at any manufacturing plant in the world that is MQB compliant. The MQB has a big German name it roughly translates to Modular Transversal Toolkit.
Since the car would have to compete with SUVS that would be slightly more affordable than itself it would be brought in as a CKD import ( Completely Knocked Down Unit) and assemble the vehicle locally in Aurangabad facility. The Pricing of the new Tayron would be around Rs 50 lakh.
Powertrain
Under the hood it is possible that the car would be powered by a 2-litre Turbo , Petrol TSi Engine , Producing Around 204 Ps of Power. The car would be mated to a 7Speed -DSG gearbox and feature VW’s 4 motion all wheel drive system. While the vehicle is available in diesel variants in the international markets, it’s possible that the car might be launched in a petrol only variant in India.
Interior and Features
The global spec Tayron would have a sleek and tech forward, 15 inch touchscreen infotainment system. Beyond that the vehicle would also have a 10.25 inch digital driver’s display and Ambient lighting. On the safety front the vehicle would be equipped with Level 2 ADAS features that enable adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and automatic emergency braking and various other autonomous driving features.
