Delhi Government To Ban Non-BS6 And CNG Commercial Vehicles From This Date! Further Plans To Promote Sustainable Mobility Detailed News24 –


A recent update has revealed that the Delhi government has planned an all new policy to combat emissions and rising pollution in Delhi. As per a recent announcement the Government would only allow BS6 and CNG commercial vehicles in Delhi city from November 1. Beyond that, the government has further detailed that it would initiate the deployment of 2,299 electric autos at key Delhi Metro Stations as a part of its newly launched Air Pollution mitigation program that was unveiled by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday. The new plan considers Electric Auto’s to be at the Centre of Electric Transportation change towards sustainable mobility and capitals’ fight against air pollution. 

To further ensure that this shift brings positive results, the government has further pledged to install 18,000 small public EV charging points across the city to improve the Shift To EV. These would be located at Malls, Airports, Railway Stations, Bus stations and commercial hubs maintained by municipal bodies and private operators. Government would further do an audit of the existing EV infrastructure with upgrades and expansions planned in the upcoming months.  Beyond this the new policy would implement other new measures as well which would include.

Government Fleets to Go Electric

To further ensure, that Delhi is as clear and environmentally friendly as possible, government would shift all their vehicles to use clean fuel flex fuel. Further the government would work towards greater adoption of Private and Commercial EV’s. Soon non electric vehicles would be phased out and only EV vehicles would remain in the government fleet. 

Dust Control 

Beyond the new measures to shift to EV vehicles Government has also shared extensive plans to  plant 70 lakh saplings under the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ campaign. The City would further deploy 1,000 water sprinklers 140 anti smog guns and install mist sprayers at 19 pollution hot spots. All these changes would be complemented by 200 mechanized Road sweepers, 70 Electric litter Pickers and 38 Water Tankers. Buildings above 3000 square meters would be asked to install rooftop anti smog guns operation year around except Monsoon.

Cloud Seeding 

Delhi would further test cloud seeding technology in collaboration with IIT Kanpur to reduce the airborne air dust. the city would take efforts to curb solid waste pollution as well. The Government has set deadlines to eliminate waste landfills.  The set deadlines are as follows the Okhla Waste To Energy plant would be upgraded to 2,950 ptd capacity and a new 3,000 ptd plant would be set up at Narela Bawana.  To further enhance air quality monitoring specialized stations would be established. Beyond that the city would also plan to further establish E-Waste Eco-Park to manage electronic waste sustainably.
