Apart from their saloon the Dzire, Maruti Suzuki also tested the all new Suzuki Baleno. Both, the 2 airbag variant as well as the 6 airbag variant of the Suzuki Baleno were tested to ensure child and adult occupant safety in the event of a crash. The Baleno has been a hotseller for the brand, but the car was often flocked for being light and susceptible to dents and indents even after small crashes. Concerns were continually raised about the safety of the vehicle since it was still available with a 2 airbag version while its competitors had shifted to the 6 airbag version.
Adult Occupant Crash Test Rating
In the adult occupant safety department the Suzuki was able to score a profound score of 24.04/32 and beyond that the car was able to fetch a score of around 34.81 out of 49. The test revealed that the protection to the drivers chest thighs was marginal in case of an accident. While at the same time the protection to the legs was adequate. The scores hence received would be applicable for the following models Sigma 1.2 ISS 5MT, Delta 1.2 ISS 5MT , Zeta 1.2 ISS 5MT, Alpha 1.2 ISS 5MT, Delta – 1.2 l ISS AGS, Zeta l ISS AGS, Alpha l ISS AGS. The vehicle tested had frontal airbags, belt pretensioners and belt laid limiters. The vehicle also had Isofix on the Rear Out board seats.
The Child Occupancy safety ratings stood at 16.81 out of a max score of 24 and the CRS installation score was 12. Vehicle assessment score 6.00 out of 13.
Baleno (6 AirBag Version)
Along with the 2 airbag, the 6 airbag version of the Baleno was also tested, the vehicle was able to score a adult occupancy safety score of around 26.52/32 that led it to score about 4 starts out of 5. In the Child Occupant Protection the car was able to score 34.81 out of 49 that helped it score around 3 star protection out of 5. The 6 airbag version has Frontal airbags, side head curtain airbags , Side Chest Air bag, Side Pelvis Air bag. The Vehicle also had Isofix seats at the rear.
Adult Occupant Safety
The car was put through two major types of collisions that included a Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test in which the vehicle was able to score 11.54 out of 16. The protection to the drivers chest thighs was found to be marginal, while the protection to the legs as well as the next was found to be adequate and good. The protection for the front passenger was adequate all over with good neck protection. In the Side Moveable Deformable Barrier Test the Vehicle was able to score around 14.99 out of 16. The Protection to the chest area was adequate and the head and trunk was good. Side impact protection for the passenger was good all over.
The Child occupant safety department the car was able to score 34.81/49.00, Dynamic score of 16.81 out of 24 and Crs installation score of 12.00/max score, and Vehicle assessment score of 6.00.
The safety scores would stand the same for models such as Zeta 1.2L ISS 5MT, Alpha 1.2L ISS 5MT, Zeta 1.2L ISS AGS and Alpha 1.2L ISS AGS.
