The EV two-wheeler market has recently gained a new competitor in the guise of the all-new Orbiter. Being aware of the iQube’s presence, TVS has placed the Orbiter below it. In a detailed launch event a few days back, the brand showcased the genesis of the Orbiter, highlighting its segment-first features and range. The scooter comes with an IP67-certified traction motor and battery. To set it apart, TVS has given the Orbiter an unorthodox design with a flat floor for comfort and a long, extended seat for relaxed riding.

This enables functions such as live location tracking, anti-theft towing alerts on mobile phones, updates on nearby charging stations, and vehicle health status. A motor cut-off safety system ensures the scooter will not accelerate in the event of a fall – even if the rider twists the throttle by mistake. The 158 km range on a single charge, which will come from a 3.1 kWh battery pack, makes the Orbiter a more affordable alternative to the iQube. The charging time of the scooter has been mentioned as around 4.1 hours, and the scooter will have a battery capacity of around 3.1 KWH.

The Orbiter is priced at ₹99,000 (ex-showroom, Bangalore) and can be booked through TVS’s official website.

The competing Honda Activa E comes equipped with a 6kW axle-mounted wheel-side PMSM motor. Its standout feature is the presence of two 3kWh swappable batteries. The idea behind this swappable battery system is to ease the range anxiety that generally troubles EV buyers. The Activa E is now open for booking at a price of ₹1,30,000.

The Suzuki E Access is another strong competitor for users considering an EV two-wheeler. Its 3.07kWh LFP battery makes it a compelling choice in the market. The Bajaj Chetak also stands out in this segment, offering battery options ranging from 2.8kWh to 3.5kWh.
