The FASTag Annual Pass, launched by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on August 15, 2025, has made toll payments more convenient for private vehicle owners on select national highways and expressways.

For a one-time payment of ₹3,000, users get either 200 toll-free trips in a year or unlimited travel for one year. Within just half a week of launch, the scheme attracted over five lakh subscriptions, drawing in a wide section of regular travellers. However, before opting for the annual pass, it’s important to note that it is not valid on all highways and expressways, particularly those managed by state authorities. On such routes, travellers will still need to use their regular FASTag account, which means maintaining two active FASTag accounts could become a hassle for frequent commuters.

Highways and Expressways Excluded

Since the annual pass is valid only on NHAI and centrally-managed toll plazas, it cannot be used on state-managed expressways or local roads. Here is the list of highways and expressways excluded from the FASTag annual pass:

  • Bundelkhand Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Agra–Lucknow Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Yamuna Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
  • Mumbai–Pune Expressway – operated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC)
  • Atal Setu (Goa) – bridge managed under a state toll system
  • Samruddhi Mahamarg (Maharashtra) – state highway not covered under the scheme

NHAI has clarified that the provision of the annual pass is exclusively for highways and expressways under the central authority, and tolls managed by state bodies remain outside its scope.

FASTag Annual Pass Coverage

The annual pass is designed only for private and non-commercial vehicles. It does not cover commercial fleets, taxis, yellow-plate vehicles, or vehicles registered by chassis number only. Additionally, parking fees remain outside the scheme’s coverage.

Even if you hold an NHAI annual pass, toll charges on excluded routes will continue to be deducted from your regular FASTag account balance.

How to Apply

Users can apply for the annual pass via the official NHAI portal or the Rajmarg Yatra App. They will need to submit their Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) and FASTag ID for verification, followed by a one-time payment of ₹3,000 through multiple available payment methods.
