which EV Scooter offers the best Range at an affordable Price? News24 –

With the increasing competition in the market, a slew of new e-scooters have been launched in India. Since Honda has been a stalwart in the nation, the Activa e could be the go-to choice for many. Honda is placing high hopes on its upcoming EV scooters-the Activa E and QC1-building on the strong legacy it has established in the conventional two-wheeler segment. However, the brand faces stiff competition from the likes of the TVS iQube, OLA’s electric lineup, and the Bajaj Chetak EV.

In an effort to stay ahead of its rivals, Honda aimed to launch these scooters with a battery exchange network, which could help alleviate range anxiety among users. The initial response to this pilot program has been encouraging, prompting Honda to roll out more affordable BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) rental plans alongside the Activa E.

These new plans are expected to significantly enhance the scooter’s appeal, especially for cost-conscious urban commuters. Let’s take a closer look.

Baas plans Charges above Activa-e
Lite Plan Rs 676
Basic Plan Rs 1,999
Advance Plan Rs 3,599

One of the most notable disadvantages of the scooter is its inability to charge using a standard wall socket; battery swapping remains the only method to power it. Initially, Honda’s BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) plan started at ₹1,999 for up to 35 kWh per month under the Basic Plan, while the Advanced Plan was priced at ₹3,599 for up to 82 kWh per month.

Drawing insights from previous customer feedback, Honda has now introduced a new Lite Plan priced at ₹678 for up to 20 kWh per month. The cost of these battery rental plans would be added to the price of the scooter. Battery swapping stations will be operated and managed by Honda Power Pack Energy India.

However, adding to the Activa E’s list of drawbacks, the battery swapping mechanism results in almost no usable boot space. The scooter is powered by a 1.5 kWh removable battery pack and a mid-mounted motor, delivering a claimed range of approximately 102 km on a full charge.

Going by the prices, the Honda Activa-E might seem a bit expensive, but the prices seem worth it since Honda offers a battery exchange program along with their vehicles as well. But if affordability is a key factor, then going with Bajaj Chetak or TVS I-Qube would be the perfect choice.
