New Delhi: According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) list of bank holidays, the branches of various lenders in the country will be closed throughout the country for three days in October 2024. One of these bank holidays was Gandhi Jayanti which has just passed on October 02, 2024. The remaining two bank holidays are on October 12 and October 31 for Dussehra and Diwali, respectively. Nationwide, these three days have bank holidays throughout the country barring some exceptions. While, city wise there will be total of 11 days (inclusive of the aforesaid three holidays on which banks will be closed in October 2024. This offcourse doesn’t subsume second and fourth Saturdays that will fall in the month under consideration.
In which cities banks will not be closed for Dussehra and Diwali?
In the cities of Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Imphal and Kohima, lenders’ branches will not be closed for Dussehra. Rest in all other towns, the branches will be closed on October 12, 2024.
While, cities of Agartala, Belapur, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Shillong and Srinagar will not have bank holidays on the occasion of Diwali. In all other remaining towns of the country, the branches will be closed on October 31, 2024.

As sometimes, same festivals are celebrated on different dates in India, so, bank holidays for the same festival vary accordingly. Lenders’ branches may be closed for the same reason on two different dates in two different states. E.g. banks will be closed for Durga Puja for three days in Kolkata on October 10, October 11 and October 12. While, in Mumbai these will be shut only on October 12 for the same festival.
