Ex RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das Appointed As Principal Secretary To PM Modi News24 –


Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary -2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ex-RBI Governor will remain in the term until further orders by PM Modi, a government notification said today.

His selection was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, with an order to this effect issued by the Department of Personnel Training (DoPT) on Saturday. P K Mishra has been the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister since September 11, 2019.

As per the order, Das’s appointment will be “co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Das, a former IAS officer of the 1980-batch Tamil Nadu cadre, was appointed as the RBI Governor in December 2018. He retired last year. In his six years as the central bank chief, he faced many challenges, including global economic uncertainties like the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine war. He has held important positions in the central and state governments in the areas of finance, taxation, industries, infrastructure, etc.
