The Waqf Bill 2025 was presented in the Lok Sabha, proposing changes to improve the management and transparency of the Waqf Board. The CEO of the Waqf Board plays an important role and is responsible for the proper use of Waqf properties. The bill suggests appointing two Non-Muslim members and two Muslim women to the board.
The BJP has instructed all its Lok Sabha MPs to vote in support of the government, while the opposition has opposed the bill. Meanwhile, the role of the Waqf Board CEO becomes important.
Let’s take a look at who the CEO of the Waqf Board is, what their responsibilities are and how much they are paid.
Who is the CEO?
The CEO of the Waqf Board is a senior administrative officer. They are responsible for the working and management of the state Waqf Board.
According to the Waqf Act, 1995, the state government appoints the CEO of the Waqf Board. This position is usually given to IAS, RAS, PCS officers, or other senior administrative officials.
What is the job?
The CEO of the Waqf Board ensures the proper use and protection of Waqf properties in the state. According to the Waqf Act, 1995, they monitor legal matters and take action if there are any issues. The CEO also hires staff for the board and supervises their work. Managing the income, expenses, and care of Waqf properties is also the CEO’s responsibility.
They coordinate between the state and central governments and help implement government schemes related to the development of Waqf properties.
How much is the salary?
According to reports, IAS and PCS officers are appointed as the CEOs of the Waqf Board as an additional responsibility. They do not receive a separate salary for this role. This means they continue to work with their original salary.
The position of the Waqf Board CEO is very important. They take care of Waqf properties and ensure they are used properly. They also act as a key link between the government and the Waqf Board.
Some changes are now proposed in the Waqf Board. The bill suggests including two non-Muslim members in both the state Waqf Boards and the Central Waqf Council. Additionally, the appointment of two Muslim women to the board will also be mandatory. These changes are expected to bring more transparency and accountability to the Waqf Board.
