Delhi Government on September 9, 2024 had banned the use, production and sale of all types of firecrackers in the national capital until January 1. The decision was taken to curb the air pollution during winters that becomes intense as the temperature decreases.
Now, in the new announcement, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has said that there will be ban on all types of firecrackers this year also, but as of now there is no prohibition on firecrackers. The prohibition will come into effect in Delhi once the notification is released.
Rai said that this was informed earlier also but the confusion was created that the prohibition has come into effect from that day only which was not true.
He also cleared that the notification hasn’t been issued yet but is in progress. As soon as the notification is released, it will come into effect and will remain till January, 2025.
Notably, the AAP-led Delhi government was trolled for using firecrackers while welcoming former Delhi CM and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal upon his release from Tihar jail. Crackers were burst and fireworks had taken place outside Arvind Kejriwal’s residence.
Several activists and BJP leaders had slammed and raised this issue, calling it a ‘gimmick’ of AAP.
BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor had criticized the AAP and Delhi government by calling AAP workers shameless for bursting crackers.“Minister Gopal Rai just four days ago imposed a ban on cracker bursting during Dushera, Kali Puja and Diwali, citing that it increases pollution. But today, hundreds of AAP workers shamelessly burst cravers outside Kejriwal’s house, party office and Tihar Jail,” said Praveen.
